6 Must See French Horror Films

Pimsleur Approach • October 27, 2010 • Foreign FilmsComments (28)

Unless you’re a horror film fanatic, you might not know that the French have been putting out some amazing horror films over the last several years. They’re a nice change of pace from traditional American horror flicks.

Here is our list of must see French horror films.

Warning: Content in trailers is fairly graphic in nature.

1. À l’intérieur (Inside)

Vicious, brutal, engrossing, and at times, amusing. Get ready to cringe as you watch a psycho relentlessly pursue her goal of taking this woman’s baby.

2. Irréversible (Irreversible)

Watch as Alex’s boyfriend and friend seek revenge on a rapist. Be willing to suppress your emotions to make it through this film.

3. Ils (Them)

This French version of Strangers is a nice change of pace for our list. It wins more with suspense than gore.

4. Martyrs

I’m not sure if there is a good American comparison for this film. There is word they’re doing an American remake to star Kristen Stewart, talk about a horror film.

5. Frontière(s) (Frontiere(s))

Imagine a cross between Saw, The Hills Have Eyes, and Hostel, but instead of the desert mutants in The Hills Have Eyes, you have a family of neo-Nazis running an inn. If you want to see a well-done French survival horror, check out Frontière(s).

6. Haute Tension (High Tension)

Also known as Switchblade Romance, Haute Tension is a gritty French slasher. A nice French homage to classic slasher films.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 is Highly expected continuation to the particularly rewarding shock horror hit movie ”PARANORMAL ACTIVITY”, from past year. I am not a huge admirer with the first motion picture. I admire it”s low spending budget creative imagination and blockbuster good results however to me it is not this scary and full of relatively cheap tricks as well as attention-grabber thrills. I thought the actual lead figure Katie, played by Katie Featherston, was very frustrating and I did not believe either the girl or her sweetheart Micah (performed by Micah Sloat) had been incredibly pleasant or relate-able and also I didn”t genuinely care exactly what happened to them. This kind of prequel has all of your identical flaws and is genuinely just much more in the same thing. It adds nothing new to the sequence until the climax, which usually is the only excellent part of your entire movie.

  2. Honestly, I”am speechless. The Shawshank Redemption is terrific. I”am a young movie fanatic, in fact, this movie appeared the same yearI was very young, and therefore I am to a greater extent used to movies with improbable special effects, edge-of-your-seat action, et cetera. This film has no of that, and yet, it close to me . Way Frank Darabont uses the narration of Red to drive on the tale, the beauty of the music utilized (note the mouth harp used merely earlier Red finding the letter close to the end). The whole film, from beginning to finish, from actions to music, is a beacon of hope, assessment, and repurchase. The cast is pure, Morgan Freeman(Red) in reality brings about a refreshing feel to the story, and that is precisely what the film is, what a film should be. Really recommended for each and everyone.
