A Drum-roll for the Pimsleur Approach Blog Contest Winner

As promised, we’ve selected a winner for our Pimsleur Approach blog contest! We received lots of great entries from people all across the country telling us about how they learned to speak a new language or experienced a different culture and we wanted to thank everyone for entering our contest!

We had a blast reading through all the entries, but we could only pick one winner for the $1,500 prize. It’s always a pleasure to hear about the differing language-learning perspectives and experiences people have had and we couldn’t be more pleased to announce that Courtenay Stevens is our lucky winner! Courtenay shared with us how she learned to speak Irish when she visited Ireland during college. There she learned what it means to be Irish and not just the language itself. Courtenay’s experience in Ireland has stuck with her to this day as she continues to embrace her heritage. Maybe Courtenay can use her $1,500 prize to visit her Irish roots again sometime soon!

Some of the other compelling language stories we read about included the story of an IT director who was raised speaking conversational Korean, used English as a primary language for years, forgot his Korean language skills, and had to relearn Korean in a “live or die” scenario as he called it in order to facilitate business negotiations and maintain his position within his company.

Yet another blogger shared how he and his brother had a layover in Zurich during their trip to Switzerland and how they navigated the city, ordering coffee with the assistance of Wi-Fi translations and being left wide-eyed by the impressive shopping opportunities of Bahnofstrasse.

We got to read through several great language-learning and cultural stories that encompassed a wide array of different languages, and we’re excited to hear even more.
