Work Anywhere in the World!
Do you speak more than one language fluently? Then you are in high demand!
The need for bilingual professionals in almost every field imaginable is growing by leaps and bounds. Even when a second language isn’t a specific requirement for a position, being able to list that on a resume or application can still give an applicant a preferred position when applying for a job. This is especially true in areas of the country where the bilingual population is more limited.
The following five areas are the hottest areas for bilingual employment right now.
- Government Workers – Whether it’s providing translation for foreign dignitaries or serving as a court reporter, the opportunities available in federal, state and local governments are growing all the time. Even military personnel that have proficiency in multiple languages can earn additional pay as a result of their linguistic abilities.
- Teachers – As the number of bilingual and non-English speaking students coming into the public school systems increases, so does the need for teachers who also have multilingual capabilities. In addition, there is a growing need for teachers of English as a second language who are also fluent in the native languages of their adult students.
- Law Enforcement – Police departments and sheriff departments are often dealing with non- English residents in their cities. Law enforcement officers who are bilingual become critical for communication in these situations. Officers that can communicate with citizens in their native language are invaluable for building relationships within the many different non-English speaking communities that are located within every major city and most of our smaller cities as well.
- Human Resources – With large numbers of non-English speaking workers being employed by U.S. companies, the need for human resource staff members who are bilingual or multilingual has continued to grow. For many companies, it may even be a requirement for their human resource managers and assistants.
- Writers – When you look through a list of want ads for writers, one of biggest needs is in the area of translation. These jobs may be either translating English documents or books into another language or translating documents from another language into English. The variety of language proficiencies being requested for these types of written translation cover a global range of languages, from Russian to Swedish to Spanish to German to Korean to Japanese, and the list goes on.
When you add a bachelor’s degree or higher to bilingual and multilingual capabilities, you’ve increased your earning potential and competitiveness in the current job market exponentially. In addition to opening up more opportunities for employment in the U.S., having fluency in additional languages also opens up more job opportunities in other countries around the globe as well.
